I know what it is like to see life and death.Ever since I was born I have always had a dog by my side and when I was 6 the newest addition to our household was born. I remember hearing that my grandparents dog was going to have puppies and that we were going to get one of those puppies. I was so happy that my husky Torrin and I were going to get a new friend.
It was fall break on october 23 at nighttime that heidi gave birth. My family chose what puppy we wanted and 2 months later Brom was coming home. Our little golden retriever.3 years later Torrin our husky is now 13 years old and he was having a hard time walking, eating, and drinking. We take him to the vet and the vet says Torrins time is coming to an end. I was 9 so I knew what it. Torrin was going to die very soon. About a week later Torrin could no longer walk on his own so we had to help him by wrapping a towel around his hips because he could not move his back legs and he could only move his front legs. He could no longer drink on his own also so we had to pour water slowly down his mouth.
That is when my my parents decided it was time. We went up to my grandparents and my dad and my brother started digging a hole in the dirt in the backyard. After the hole was done my mom comes and tells me its time. My mom, my brother, my grandpa, and me put Torrin in the back of the car and we bring him to the vet.
The vet tells us that first he will give Torrin something to put him to sleep and that is when we can say our goodbyes. I climb into the back of the car and put his head on my lap as I start to cry. The vet gives Torrin the shot and Torrins eyes started to slowly close. We all start to hug him and say everything's alright and what a good boy he is, and the whole time his head is on my lap as I hug his head and cry.
His eyes are now closed and is fully asleep. The vet starts telling us that the next shot he going to give Torrin is going to stop his heart and his lungs. The vet comes up and gives Torrin the shot, while I still hold Torrins head in my lap. A minute later the vet checks for a heartbeat but I know he is dead because he had stopped breathing.
The vet declares him dead. We all climb back into the car with Torrin still in the back and drive back to my grandparents house. When we get there my brother and I were crying. My dad carries Torrin out of the car and set him gently into the hole. My brother pulls out his blanket he had since he was a baby and put it on Torrin to like Torrin was just sleeping. Then I put my favorite stuffed animal in with him so he can have something to be with when he is all alone. My dad then fills in the hole and we make a tombstone for torrin and put it on his grave and my mom put rosemary on the grave because Torrin loved rosemary. I mostly stopped crying but my brother was still sobbing. The next day we went home with only 1 dog. We went up with 2 dogs and we come down with 1 dog. I know what it is like to see life and death.
